certified mold contractorMold. It latches onto your leftovers faster than we can put them into the fridge. It’s that abnormal spot on the loaf of bread we keep out for just a tad too long. But we don’t always encounter mold on leftovers. It can also be found on ceilings, walls, floors, and other areas of our workspaces. Getting rid of this kind of mold is not as easy as tossing out old bread, but requires a certified mold contractor.

There are two extreme reactions to the fact that there might be mold in the building.

  1. Apathy: Some blatantly ignore the fact that they may have mold growing in their building or workplace. They figure that it’s not an important issue that it’s not worth worrying about in the first place.
  2. Anxiety: Others strongly react to the prospect of having mold in their work environment. They begin to “see” mold spores on every wall and expect everyone within a two mile radius to be carted off to the hospital in no time due to the presence of mold.

Needless to say, neither of these reactions are practical. There are more reasonable ways to respond to the prospect of mold. One of the steps that you can take is to inform yourself about mold. Where does it grow, and what conditions does it need to grow? What are some warning signs? Here are some signs that indicate the need for a certified mold contractor.

Signs That You Need A Certified Mold Contractor

  • Seeing spores: Seeing mold is a clear warning sign. Look for those discolored, slimy blotches that hang out in dark, damp areas, but realize it can grow almost anywhere. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings and to remain alert enough to notice any aberrations. The problem with walking in the same building everyday is that you get so accustomed to your surroundings that you do not notice the little things. Make sure that you keep an eye out for mold.
  • Musty smells: Mold can emit a particularly unpleasant odor and the odor is a tell-tale sign of microbial growth. If you ever notice a musty smell, then you may want to try and find the source. If the smell persists, then you should consult with a certified mold contractor. While our impulse is to cover up bad odors, make sure that you are taking care of the source instead of just covering up warning signs.
  • Know the sites: Be vigilant about looking over the areas where mold is most likely to grow. The primary factor to keep in mind is moisture, without it mold can’t grow. Roof leaks and leaking around  window and door openings are places that you should keep an eye on. Look for stains on ceiling tiles – and while looking at the ceiling tiles, look for those that are bowed. This is a result of elevated relative humidity (an excessive moisture in the air problem). Puddles at the base of walls and anything else that’s out of the ordinary.
